PLA is freakin' awesome and I can't recommend it enough for physical product entrepreneurs, especially first-timers like me. Worth every penny.
I launched my first business about one year ago to the tune of crickets. Just a solopreneur with a day job and no clue what I was doing other than the goal to make some money from a product I invented. An engineer by profession, I knew how to design things so I developed it myself! But that was just the beginning of the process, and the end of my knowledge. I had no clue how to market or sell effectively. So like a typical engineer I figured that this was just another problem to solve, and to solve it all I needed to do was gain the necessary knowledge by educating myself. Well, it wasn't so easy. DIYing web design, copywriting, marketing, and advertising, all without any kind of roadmap or mentorship, was extremely difficult and frustrating. I tried running ads on multiple platforms and never got a positive return on ad spend (my conversion rates were SO bad!) so I pulled the plug, and was back to zero traffic except for my humble Etsy listing.
I didn't want to hire anyone to set things up for me because I didn't really know what the end result was supposed to look like. If I didn't know exactly what I wanted, what was the point? I figured I was going to get mediocre results without paying good money for good talent. Not to mention I'd have to work much harder to break even after digging myself deeper into the red. I couldn't possibly pay multiple thousands of dollars if I wasn't realistically going to make that money back quickly. And even then it was going to be a one-off fix because I still wouldn't have the knowledge or skills I definitely needed for the future. I didn't want to pay for the fish, I needed someone to teach me HOW to fish!
I stumbled my way to about two dozen sales in a year. Not bad for a newbie but still a terrible trajectory.
During that first year, the Facebook algorithm quickly figured out I was a business owner so I was constantly bombarded by ads from marketing, advertising, copywriting, and sales gurus and agencies. I tried to soak up as much knowledge as possible with free and cheap "funnel bait" resources, but in the end they were just individual puzzle pieces. I learned a lot but in the end I was still stuck. I needed someone who saw the whole picture that could teach it to me!
In the midst of all these targeted ads, Dan's ad caught my eye and I signed up for the PLA webinar. It really opened my eyes to the reality that I was doing the wrong thing to learn everything the hard way and reinventing the wheel, and it became clear that PLA was the exactly the solution I was looking for. Time is money, and I wasted SO MUCH trying to figure everything out myself. One year was plenty to come to terms that I needed to try something different so I signed up without even asking my pregnant wife! Not once did I regret it.
The PLA course is surprisingly holistic and Dan has done a terrific job of distilling huge amounts of practical knowledge across a wide variety of easily digestible topics. And it's not just knowledge, it's rolled into a roadmap with actionable guidance. There is a lot of content, all of it high quality, and extremely useful and actionable. I know I'll need to go back and watch some lessons again because they're really that helpful.
In particular, I found the marketing training and market validation strategy to be invaluable. It got me unstuck and now I know exactly what steps I need to take next! I'm not even halfway done with the course and it's already easily been worth it. The support of the Facebook group community and live Q&A are a huge bonus too.
The best part of it all is that not only did PLA help me break through a wall, it helped me see that my original goals of some supplemental income were not just attainable, but a much bigger vision is also within my reach. Excited to see where this leads!
